Members of JCI Lagos Royale stormed Ebute Metta on Saturday, 28th June, 2014 for her annual Royale Malaria Campaign. The program which is the organisation’s contribution towards fighting the malaria scourge was sponsored by Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Society for Family Health (SFH) and HealthPlus Pharmacies.
At Simpson Primary Healthcare Centre where the program took place, residents were tested using Rapid Diagnostic Test kits (RDT), and malaria positive patients were given medication by Emzor officials. In addition, residents were educated on preventive measures for malaria and the importance of environmental hygiene.
Commenting, Bolanle Morin, the 2014 chapter President, talked about JCI’s vision to create positive and sustainable impact in the society. She also spoke of the need for the community to be healthy. “The first step towards beating malaria is ensuring that your environment is clean, and you use your mosquito nets properly. Prevention is always better than cure.”
In response, Mrs. Adekoya, the Officer in charge of the Simpson Healthcare Centre thanked JCI Lagos Royale for taking interest in the community, and expressed hope that incidences of malaria recorded would reduce considerably after the programme.
Also speaking at the event, Temitope Gbenro, the 2014 Director of Projects, said the program is JCI Lagos Royale’s contribution toward realizing the sixth Millennium Development Goal which is to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other diseases.
